Ways to Bid

There are 3 ways to buy wine at auction during one of our live sales, whether you can be at the auction in real-time or not:

  • Bid live online using our bidding platform, streamed live to the internet. You’ll need to register here in advance.
  • By telephone, we’ll call you at the time of the lots you are interested in
  • Leaving a commission bid in advance online or by emailing us (we bid for you, up to your maximum figure)

Buyer's Commission

Successful bids will be subject to a buyer’s commission charge of 15% + VAT on all purchases.

We also run timed-online auctions through our bidding platform, where a lot is available to bid on until a defined deadline. It’s a very simple online way to bid for the wine you are interested in buying. Unlike ebay, there’s no last-minute sniping allowed, the sales will automatically extend if a new bid is placed within 2 minutes of the auction ending, so all bidders have a fair chance to buy the lot they are looking for.

Our Team Are On Hand

If you’re new to buying wine at auction, or perhaps just new to one of our wine auctions, our friendly and dedicated team are here to help answer any questions you may have.

Meet our specialist team, or get in touch with us either by email or phone. They are here to guide you through the auction process, whether it’s as you’re browsing the catalogue, ahead of the auction or after you’ve made a successful bid.

Collection and Delivery

All our wine auction lots are held at Locke King Vaults – the fine wine storage facility of EHD. Collection of lots is from the goods out office located at EHD directly – Unit 3 Frimley Business Park, Frimley, GU16 7SR. As all lots need to be picked and made ready, we need a minimum of 24 hours notice for collection (work days) with a cut-off time of 12.00 for the following business day.

We do not deliver ourselves, however we can help you to arrange UK delivery across the UK through EHD. This is done on their own vehicles in London and through third party couriers outside London. We can also help you arrange In Bond transfers within the UK, if that is also required. The link to the EHD transport tariff is here – please note the policies on insurance as this is a buyer’s responsibility. Extra insurance can be purchased should you wish.

You are also very welcome to arrange your own courier to collect from the EHD facility. The buyer is responsible for any other arrangements and neither Bacchus Wine Auctions or EHD can be held responsible for making arrangements and ongoing storage.

For overseas deliveries of wine auction lots, we recommend Davies Turner Air Cargo, Connoisseur International or DHL.

It’s important that you understand the full terms & conditions for buying through an auction. Please read these here before bidding.
